In-Home Exotic Pet Sitting in Hicksville and Central Nassau County
When your pets include birds, reptiles, rabbits, or several species under one roof, finding the right sitter takes more than finding someone who loves animals.
You need someone who is comfortable with the care plan, careful with the details, and able to follow species-specific instructions from the start.
I’m Kaitlin, the owner and care provider behind Bird Girl Pet Services. I provide in-home exotic pet sitting in Hicksville and throughout Central Nassau County for families with parrots and other birds, reptiles, small mammals, and multi-pet homes that need a more specialized kind of care.
Birds and exotic pets are the reason I started this business. After working with exotic veterinarians and seeing how difficult it could be for local families to find safe, knowledgeable care, I built Bird Girl Pet Services around the animals who are often hardest to place with a typical sitter.
When you work with me, you are hiring the person whose name is on the business, whose background is centered on birds and specialty pets, and who will take the time to understand your animal’s normal routine before care begins.
Parrot and Exotic Bird sitting services
Birds are at the heart of Bird Girl Pet Services.
I care for parrots, parakeets, cockatiels, conures, lovebirds, African greys, Amazons, cockatoos, macaws, finches, canaries, and other exotic birds.
Bird owners often have the same concern: they need a sitter who is genuinely experienced with avian care. During bird sitting visits, I follow your instructions for feeding, fresh water, cage upkeep, light schedules, safe enrichment, and approved interaction.
I also pay attention to the details that matter in daily bird care, including appetite, droppings, posture, vocalization, energy level, and changes in normal behavior.
My goal is to keep your bird’s routine as familiar and low stress as possible while you are away, with care that respects their species, setup, and individual need
Reptile sitting services
Reptile owners are usually not looking for someone to “play” with their pet. They are looking for someone careful, steady, and willing to follow the setup exactly.
I provide in-home reptile sitting for bearded dragons, leopard geckos, small tortoises, snakes, and other reptiles. These visits are built around your animal’s enclosure, feeding plan, and normal routine.
Depending on your instructions, reptile visits may include feeding, fresh water, spot cleaning, checking lights and heat sources, misting or humidity support, confirming enclosure security, and making sure the habitat is functioning as expected.
I do not force handling or interaction. If your reptile needs hands off care, I respect that. If your pet has a specific handling routine, I follow your instructions. The focus is on consistency, safety, and careful observation while you are away.
Small mammal sitting services
Guinea pigs, chinchillas, ferrets, and rabbits all need care that matches their species, setup, and daily routine. The challenge for many small mammal owners is finding a sitter who understands that these pets are not interchangeable.
I provide expert care for guinea pigs, chinchillas, ferrets, rabbits, and other small mammals in their home environment, with visits shaped around your instructions, their housing, and the routine that keeps them comfortable.
I also offer rabbit boarding in my home, and I often encourage that service when it is a better fit.
Rabbits are prone to GI stasis, which can come on within hours and become fatal without immediate veterinary care, so closer observation may be the safer choice for some rabbits.
Pet sitting for multi-species homes
Many of the homes I care for are not simple one-pet households.
You might have a parrot, two rats, and a cat. Or, you might have several enclosures, multiple feeding routines, different medication instructions, and animals who cannot be handled the same way. That kind of home needs a sitter who can keep details straight.
I am comfortable caring for multi-species households and following separate instructions for each pet. Each pet gets care that fits their species, their routine, and your directions.
For families with birds, reptiles, small mammals, cats, or other nontraditional pets, this can make travel feel much less stressful.
You won't have to arrange care from multiple people or hope a sitter who works mostly with dogs is comfortable enough.
You can work with someone whose business is built for these pets.

Daily visit updates with photos
Some pets only need a short, simple check in. Others need more time for feeding, cleaning, enrichment, medication, or multi pet care. We will choose the visit length that fits the routine.
Bird and small mammal grooming services
I offer basic grooming services for birds and small mammals. If your pet needs routine grooming and you want to avoid the stress of a trip to a clinic, I'm available for Saturday appointments.
Bird grooming includes wings, nails, and beak trimming for $30. Small mammal nail trims are available for $25, and grooming can also be added to a boarding reservation at a discounted rate.
Specialty care from a vet recommended exotic pet sitter
I am a Certified Professional Pet Sitter, insured and bonded, and trained in CPR, first aid, and emergency first aid for reptiles, birds, and small mammals.
I am also a board member and volunteer with the Long Island Parrot Society, and my own life includes birds, small animals, and the daily routines that come with caring for them well. My work is often recommended by veterinary professionals because this is the kind of care I specialize in.
Before your visits begin, I review your instructions, your pet’s normal behavior, your home setup, and any concerns you want me to watch for.
My goal is to keep your pet’s routine steady while you are away and give you clear updates so you are not left wondering what happened at home.
